There is an excellent resource for parents to teach their children about being responsible with their finances and that is with a prepaid credit card. It doesn’t matter how young your child is, this is a great way to let them learn about how to handle their finances and it will carry them into being fiscally responsible adults as well. If you’re a new parent with an adopted child, what better way to show your child how to handle their money than with a prepaid credit card?

These work by giving the recipient a line of credit equal to what is placed in the account. If you put $500 in there for your child to use, that is all they can spend until more is loaded. This not only teaches them about waiting on things they may want but don’t have the money for but it also teaches them how to manage their money and even keep up with a checkbook. Some prepaid cards even help children build their credit and that can be essential for later on in life when they are ready to buy a car or even a home.

Some parents may think that their child is too young to handle the responsibility of a prepaid credit card but in fact, they are never too young to learn about using money in a responsible way. This allows them to make their own purchases but know that they can only spend a set amount. This teaches them to be able to make decisions on larger purchases and to decide which is more important to them. It also helps you out by allowing them to buy their own items without begging you constantly because it’s their money and they are responsible for it. What could be better than that?
